something new can be learnt everyday

I met an aerial photographer last week and here is some information I can share from the conversation. At a height of 6 to 7 kilometers, you could practically get pictures with a resolution of 1m. Pictures taken from aircraft for surveys usually are taken from multiple cameras and then composed together to make an image. Image sizes easily reach a few tera bytes. And then for some special purposes, people fly as low as 1 km. Imagine detecting which song is played on your friends iPod from a kilometer above. Things could get a little on the embarrassing side too, but that would not be the first time technology tripped some one (Ever left your webcam on or typed on the wrong chat window ?).

Another random fact:
Once in a while, satellites capture aircraft in flight. You can watch some of them through the .kml file available on this page. Ofcourse, you need Google Earth!

life’s little pleasures

It is great to know how others associate my (somewhat diverse and unrelated) interests with me. Associations across interests sometimes turn interesting and here is an example.

Last Monday I received a parcel from the couple from the love nest. Well, any gift would make my day but this one was super special since it came from people I love and it came to me when I really need gifts. Sigh! Do you guys get it?

It totally made my day.

The gift is a book. Umm… on photography. Err.. on erotic photography. A few years ago when I was a student of photography, this is where I wished I could be (dreams, right? me agrees!) I am the photographer in the group, I am told. I have also been warned to not to reciprocate the love with any porn or even remotely porn material 🙂 Maybe they don’t trust my taste but that is another matter.

I also loved the extensive use of wrapping paper and sealing tape that took me 10 minutes to take off (was this their idea of foreplay?)

I am still excited over the gift though I have not even read a single page. Madame et Monsieur, you rock!

Sorry folks for not being myself over the past few days. Those of you who have tried to reach me might have felt frustrated at not hearing back from me. Apologies for that and I promise to rectify that soon. I am going through a short-lived phase of uncertainty that had blurred my judgment. The bright side is that it won’t be long, so hang in there. Hugs to all of you, as always.
